The DNR released a news statement today indicating that zebra mussels are moving closer to our part of the state. Populations of the species have been found in Douglas and Ottertail counties. They suspect in one of the cases that the species was transported on a boat lift moved from an infested lake. So far the new infestation is limited to a small area and they plan to treat it with copper sulfate, used to treat snails that cause swimmers itch.
