Last night a storm came roaring through Park Rapids leaving some without electricity, trees uprooted, buildings damaged and schools closed. It appears that the severe part of the storm did not track over any part of Long Lake.
June 1, 2011 Update: A weather service team has confirmed that a tornado was partly to blame for damage in the Park Rapids, Minnesota, area.

It's all Happening on Saturday, May 14th
This weekend is the big fishing opener:
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/opener/fishing/index.html
We wish you all the best of luck bringing in those walleyes (or whichever game fish you prefer) and hope you have lots of fun catching them. We would also like you to consider another event going on Saturday, May 14, which is our semiannual Adopt-A-Highway roadside clean up project on County Highway 20 starting at 1pm that day. We figure the fish will be taking an after lunch nap about then and so won't be biting during that time anyway.
If you are willing to help, please gather at 15131 County 20 (just north of 150th Street) for refreshments, assignments and supplies. We will clean the 7 mile stretch between the two Long Lake Area Association Adopt-A-Highway signs. Many volunteers will make clean-up time short.

Loon Cam
The eagle cam in Decorah, Iowa has been very popular and fun to watch, but it turns out we can also watch loons nesting closer to home. The Loon Cam is in central Minnesota and focused on a loon family currently waiting for two eggs to hatch. To access the webcam follow this link: Minnesota Bound Live Loon Cam. Also, be sure to check out Larry Backlund's Loon Blog where he talks about the pair of loons we are watching and more: Larry's Loon Blog.
