Saturday, August 4th, at 1PM there will be a guided ecology-type field trip for "kids" of all ages with the White Family associates. Reserve your spot by calling 732-7939 before 7PM on Friday, August 3rd, with your name and how many will be coming. We will walk through the White's woods to discover, learn and discuss how the wooded areas help protect our lake. Your children need to be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own water bottles and bug spray. Wear slacks and shoes (not sandals) as you'll be walking around some thistles too. Meet at 14388 Chippewa Loop on the west side by the garages.
(Saturday, August 11th at 1PM is our backup date in case of rain on August 4th.)

Lake Discover Program 2012
This year's "Lake Discover" program is Saturday, July 14th at 10AM. This event will be held at the South Access boat launch area and is for kids of all ages. We will repeat what we learned from Jon Sams last year by doing a guided Biotic Index exercise of collecting "things" in the lake, identifying them (clams, invertebrates, leaches, snails, etc.) and then discovering how they can tell us if our lake water is good, beginning to be not-so-good or becoming polluted. Bring your life jacket, water shoes and a bucket. Your children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Pictures from the Flotillas on July 4th
Thanks to all who participated in the fun flotilla on our sunny 4th this year! You viewers on shore made the 4th of July celebration even better with your exuberance!
The theme "Patriotism for Your Country" was evident in the twenty-some decorated boats and pontoons. Special thanks to the Flotilla Leaders Jon Notch & Team for the north route and Joanne Torfin & Crew for the south route. Thanks also to the Oliver's for judging the south route, the Madsen's for hosting north route judging on their dock, and to CC White for posting the pictures on the website so quickly.
On the north route, the identified winners are Team Lorentzen in the boat category and The Schell Team for the pontoon category. On the south route, the identified winner for the pontoon category is the John McKinney Family. If your "unidentified" boat or pontoon was labeled in the pictures as a first or second place winner, please see Sharon during registration at the LLAA Annual Meeting, 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 7th at the Hubbard Community Center.

A friend of mine is a diver and posted these pictures on his facebook page of how the zebra mussels are invading Lake LeHommeDieu near Alexandria, MN. I hope you can see his comments, too. One of his friends asks, "what can be done about the zebra mussels?" Greg replies, "Nothing, its too late."
It makes Long Lake seem even more precious. Thanks to everyone who is checking, cleaning and helping to prevent them from getting into Long Lake.
