Volunteers are the heart of the Long Lake Area Association.

Whether you can help once a month or just a few times each summer, there are many ways to get involved.

Immediate Volunteer Needs

 


AIS Monitor

Help monitor Long Lake for aquatic invasive species and assist with shoreline surveys and lake stewardship projects.

Getting started is simple:
Reach out and our AIS lead will connect with you, provide guidance, and help you get involved. Most volunteers participate just a few times each summer.

Typical commitment:
Twice each summer, flexible timing.

Who this is great for:
Lakeowners interested in lake vegetation, water quality, ecology, and spending time outdoors on the lake.

Optional training:
Some volunteers choose to take the University of Minnesota Extension AIS Detectors Core Course for additional learning, but it is not required to participate in the Long Lake program: AIS Detectors Core Course


Loon Monitor

Help observe and report on loon activity on Long Lake to support conservation and monitoring efforts.

Typical commitment:

Occasional observations during the season.

Who this is great for:
Lakeshore owners who enjoy observing wildlife and spending quiet time on the lake.


Website Support
Help keep Long Lake information accurate and up to date. Most tasks take just a few minutes and can be done from home.

Typical committment:

Small tasks as needed, often just a few minutes at a time.

Who this is great for:
Detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy spotting small improvements and helping the website stay accurate. This is a flexible, behind-the-scenes role that can be done on your own schedule.


Facebook Community Contributors

Help keep the Long Lake community active online by occasionally sharing photos, stories, tips, or updates related to your interests on the lake.

Possible topics include:

  • fishing
  • wildlife and nature photos
  • paddling or sailing
  • pontoon life
  • lake stewardship
  • lake history and traditions
  • sunset or weather updates

Typical commitment:

Post occasionally, when you have something to share.

Who this is great for:
People who already enjoy taking photos, spending time on the lake, or sharing hobbies with others. Most contributors post only occasionally.


Event Photographer

Help capture and share moments from Long Lake community events throughout the summer. Photos may be used on the LLAA website, newsletter, and social media pages.

Possible events include:

  • Summer Social & Annual Meeting
  • Flotilla
  • Golf Tournament
  • Volunteer events
  • Seasonal lake activities

Typical Commitment:

Usually 3-4 events per summer.

Who this is great for:
Anyone who enjoys photography, lake life, and capturing community moments. You do not need professional equipment. Most volunteers participate only occasionally.



Instagram Photo Sharing (Optional)

Help share photos of Long Lake on an LLAA Instagram account.

Posts might include sunsets, wildlife, shoreline views, seasonal scenes, and community moments from around the lake.

Typical commitment:

Share photos whenever inspiration strikes.

Who this is great for:
Someone who enjoys photography and already uses Instagram. A flexible way to contribute by sharing moments from the lake when you capture them.

Many LLAA volunteers choose to get involved by joining a committee. Committees work together on projects throughout the year and are a great way to meet neighbors while supporting the lake and our community.
