Ways to Volunteer
AIS Monitor
Help protect Long Lake by monitoring for aquatic invasive species (AIS). Volunteers survey assigned shoreline areas several times during the summer, looking for signs of new or spreading invasive species.
Typical commitment:
Two 3-hour sessions each summer, with flexible timing.
Who this is great for:
Lakeowners interested in lake vegetation, water quality, ecology, and spending time outdoors on the lake.
What you’ll need:
A boat is required. Training and survey tools are provided.
Loon Monitor
Help track Long Lake’s loon population by observing and recording loon activity during the summer. Volunteer observations contribute to LLAA’s long-term record of loon numbers and nesting success.
Typical commitment:
Occasional observations during the season.
Who this is great for:
Lakeshore owners who enjoy observing wildlife and spending quiet time on the lake.
Administrative Support
Help with occasional administrative projects such as organizing information, updating records, preparing materials, or assisting with other behind-the-scenes LLAA work.
Typical commitment:
Flexible, varies by task. Some roles are ongoing, others are occasional.
Who this is great for:
Volunteers with experience in finance, organization, spreadsheets, or administrative support who want to contribute behind the scenes.
Website Support
Help keep the LLAA website useful and up to date by assisting with content updates, page reviews, troubleshooting, or other website projects as needed.
Typical committment:
Small tasks as needed, often just a few minutes at a time.
Who this is great for:
Detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy spotting small improvements and helping the website stay accurate.
Facebook Community Contributors
Help keep the Long Lake community connected by contributing useful, interesting, or timely content to LLAA’s Facebook communities. Posts might highlight lake life, local wildlife, seasonal activities, community information, or other topics of interest to Long Lake residents.
Typical commitment:
Post occasionally, when you have something to share.
Who this is great for:
People who already enjoy taking photos, spending time on the lake, or sharing hobbies with others.
Event Photographer
Help capture LLAA events and lake-community activities through photos that can be shared on the website, in newsletters, and on social media.
Typical Commitment:
Usually 3-4 events per summer.
Who this is great for:
Anyone who enjoys photography, lake life, and capturing community moments. You do not need professional equipment.
