Surf Responsibly!

Protect the lake that we love.

This guidance is provided by the Long Lake Area Association as part of our ongoing lake stewardship efforts.

Wake surfing can create large waves that impact shorelines, water clarity, docks, and other boats.
To help protect Long Lake, wake surfing should be done in deep water and away from shore.

The shaded area on the map above shows the recommended area for wake surfing on Long Lake.

Recommended Wake Surfing Guidelines

Based on recent research and guidance from Minnesota COLA and the University of Minnesota:

  • Maintain at least 20 feet of water depth
  • Stay at least 500 feet from shore (575 feet recommended when possible)
  • Avoid operating near docks, swimmers, or other boats

These guidelines help reduce shoreline impact, protect water quality, and minimize conflicts on the lake.
