Environmental Stewardship

For more than 50 years, the Long Lake Area Association has worked to understand and support practices that protect Long Lake’s health while maintaining its recreational value for property owners and visitors.

What is Environmental Stewardship:
Environmental stewardship encompasses the many issues and actions that influence the water quality and long-term enjoyment of Long Lake.

Environmental Stewardship and the LLAA

Over the years, aquatic invasive species (AIS) have become a growing concern nationally, statewide, and here in Hubbard County. Since its inception, the LLAA Foundation, at the direction of the LLAA, has funded educational programs as well as prevention and treatment activities to address AIS. Many LLAA members also contribute time and expertise in collaboration with partner organizations and government agencies.

The LLAA works closely with several partner organizations that support lake stewardship efforts. The LLAA also works with township, county, and statewide partners to secure funding that supports stewardship efforts. Recent collaboration helped secure funding for invasive plant management and Minnesota DNR community grants supporting AIS monitoring and treatment on Long Lake.

Environmental Stewardship and the 2024 Long Lake Hubbard County, MN, Survey of Property Owners

The LLAA Board of Directors received strong confirmation of the importance of environmental stewardship through a survey of Long Lake property owners conducted in summer 2024. When property owners were asked about their top five concerns regarding the lake quality (health) of Long Lake, over 90% noted aquatic invasive species (AIS) as their primary concern.
